If that's the harshest penalty the NFL and Goodell is going to dish out to cheaters, then I think every team should think it's worth it to cheat.
I mean imagine you are on the verge of winning the Super Bowl. The difference between winning and losing is several millions (ref) so if I cheat, I'll still make a huge profit and I'll only lose a first round pick which is totally worth it since your first round pick won't be until the end and winning the Super Bowl comes once in a million at least for some non cheating teams.
I mean, seriously, am I correct here? I know that the Pats were fined based on league rules, but wow.
Obviously, I don't endorse cheating. But my sarcasm is just a nicer way of venting my frustration on this issue.
I totally agree. Goodell really blew this one. The punishment does say it's ok to cheat. The difference between winning and losing often comes down to just a few plays in many games. Belicheat knew what the other team was doing on some of those key plays over his career at NE. What a miserable cheater instead of "genius" this is.

I think that they should take away their SB title, but they did not even do anything about their win last week…the most satisfyinhg thing to me is at least thier victories have been tainted (which really isn't much).

I agree they should have been fined even more it only cost them what 750K to win 3 Super Bowls thats cheap considering what they made off the wins.

The reason they were fined that amount is because that is the highest fine allowable under current NFL rules. There are no rules put in place for something like this so Goodell was forced to go with what rules they have for the sake of punishing Bellichek for his actions. You can more or less guarantee that during next year's off season that a more concrete and likely harsher rule will be put in place to deal with any violations like this in the future.

You are absolutely right. Also, remember that as they gained fame, glory, and $$ from their cheating, the other teams along the way unfairly lost those opportunities. Who knows, Jacksonville may have even made it to the Superbowl one year.
