I'd agree with secretsauce.
Go with questions which have few answers, ones where you know what youre talking about or can add a funny or interesting fact.
Be aware that the questions which seem to be too easy may be coming from 10 year olds who deserve a kind and clear answer.
And help out by rating other people's answers - after all, the more points shared around, the more we all get!
References :
Well, you can cheat. (That's probably what somebody is doing when they earn 1000 points in a day ... probably a bot ... YA eventually deletes them.)

But here's my tips:
1. Only answer things you really know well. If you're just guessing at an answer, people can tell ... and it often makes you look silly.

2. Read the question *carefully*. Sometimes the Asker has some basic misconception that needs to be cleared up, or is asking something slightly different from what is obvious.

3. Actually answer the question. You'd be surprised at the number of people who just post a long discussion that barely touches on the question.

4. If more than 10-15 people have already answered, don't bother adding another answer. Few people will read that far (including the Asker). The exception is if there isn't a decent answer among them ... then you've still got a chance to nail it.

5. Submit your answer, and then go back and Edit it. Use that YA built-in spell-checker. If you're grammar is rusty *read it out loud* ... glaring mistakes will just sound wrong.

6. Link your source! Put a source in there (unless it's just an opinion). For many people, this is a clincher ... no source, no vote.

7. Don't copy-paste long wikipedia articles or other long passages. Link it. Links are better b/c the wikipedia page has better cross-linking and illustrations. It's OK to copy-paste a pgf or two if somebody says something better than you can ... but if you must do this, attribute the source! It's not just that it's dishonest not to ... but if the text you are pasting is wrong, you get blamed.

8. Stay away from the Politics sections ... it's just shrill name-calling, and nobody reads the answers, least of all the Asker.

9. Be courteous! (I'm sometimes guilty of getting pissed off.) Especially if the Asker seems confused, but genuine. There are a lot of kids on here asking really elementary questions ... but they really want to learn! And there are a lot of people with opposite opinions to you, but who are genuinely open to hearing your point of view ... if you come out calling them names, they'll stop listening ... and you won't get any points.

10. Watch out with kids doing their homework. You can usually tell the difference between a kid who really wants to learn, and the ones just filling out worksheets (e.g., they post multiple-choice questions ... and can't even type the *questions* correctly). The latter *rarely* thank people by picking a Best Answer ... they just care about whether the answer is (a) or (d).
